AstroLands Summer Interns 2021 Blog 6

Hi everyone, Lauren and Gráinne here again!

This has been a break week between the camps so that we could fully take on all the feedback from our first camp and make some edits to our resources. It was really good to see how the Astro Campers interacted with our activities and presentations to see what we could change to make things clearer and easier to understand.

Gráinne has been doing some tweaking and editing for the activities, while Lauren has been editing one of the tour videos with subtitles because, since everything is online, you can’t really predict when the internet might lag! Hopefully this will help the Campers to fully understand what’s going on, even when there are some technical difficulties, which there tend to be in the new age of Teams and Zoom!

Some cool statistics we’ve been looking at!

Otherwise, we’ve also been finalising speakers for AstroLands Academy! Since this is more for Campers who are going to be making some decisions about college in the near future, it has been really nice to reflect on how we ended up in our degrees. We hope our experiences with getting here from secondary school can help some Campers with the stress that comes along with making these big decisions! With the help of our other speakers, we hope to convey to all the students in the AstroLands Academy what it is like to study and work in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Maths) and how many different career paths are possible with an undergraduate degree in STEM. We’ve been testing out and gathering lots of resources to help the Campers decide on their next step after secondary school! We’d also like to give a special thank you to stream BIRR for their support of AstroLands Academy!

We’re also really excited to announce that the Red Giant Astro Camp is fully booked and that we still have a few places left for AstroLands Academy and Nebula 2 Astro Camp! Register here to secure your spot at these camps!
