Space4Students

We are currently running fun activities, experiments and workshops for students between the ages of 10 and 18. Activities can be tailored to suit your specific class needs.

Education Centre

Thanks to support from the Department of Arts, Heritage, Regional, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs we have built the I-LOFAR Education Centre in the grounds of Birr Castle. It is now equipped with a large video wall and a LOFAR radio telescope network activity wall among other interactive exhibits.

Student Workshops

We develop and deliver a range workshops exploring space and bringing the science behind I-LOFAR to life. These are run at the I-LOFAR Education Centre in Birr and include activities for all second level class groups, including telescope tours, interactive workshops, talks and discussions, and activities designed for senior primary school classes.

We also bring these classroom games and experiments around Ireland so can come to you! Email education@lofar.ie to explore the possibility of us visiting your school or community group or to arrange a visit to us.

Tours of I-LOFAR

Visit the site of I-LOFAR in Birr Castle Demesne, hear how it was built and what researchers are using it for from a member of the I-LOFAR Team. The Space Expo

The Space Expo (www.spaceexpo.ie) attracted over 30,000 visitors of all ages to Trinity College Dublin to learn about the amazing impact studying space has on our lives in Europe today. The interactive dome was the home for three action-packed workshops for kids everyday, including SkySketchers, Sun@One and a Make your own Comet workshop.

Sunspotter

Sunspotter (www.sunspotter.org) is a citizen science programme developed with Zooniverse to classify sunspots. We successfully took this to many schools all over the country, allowing students to make a real impact to current cutting-edge solar research.
