The AstroLands Team at I-LOFAR are delighted to be bringing our new online Astro Camps about all things space to a computer screen near you! Explore the Universe, learn what’s so special about our Sun, and discover what it’s like to live in space during these week-long camps. 

We will dive into astronomy with talks, virtual tours and hands-on activities – journey out into deep space, and learn more about the astrophysics done closer to home with visits to key locations around Ireland, from historical to active research observatories. 

For our Nebula and Red Giant Astro Camps, each participant will be sent a information pack with materials for the week. Group numbers are limited to ensure a immersive, interactive experience for all participants

Nebula Astro Camp

Begin to explore space, learn more about our Solar System and what makes it spin! With chats from real Astrophysicists and plenty of hands-on, tangible activities to get involved with!

Red Giant Astro Camp

Suitable for Secondary School students who are in or have just finished the Junior Cycle – 1st, 2nd & 3rd year

Dive into the cosmos with talks from leading researchers, get up close to Irish astronomy past and present, and explore the links between art, science and creativity with interactive activities.

AstroLands Academy

Suitable for Secondary School students who are in or have just finished Senior Cycle – TY, 5th & 6th year

Explore what Astrophysics is all about! Chat to leading university lectures and researchers, get a sense of the skills needed to understand space, delve into discussions on space exploration and life in the Universe, while using creative and analytical skills combined.

Details

Astro Camps will run from Monday to Friday, 10:00 to 13:00 each day (3 hours). All sessions will run online in a closed Microsoft Teams group. 

Access to a computer and internet is required in order to participate in this camp experience. Microsoft Teams will be used each day for live talks, workshops and interaction. All web services and applications are free and can be accessed on a phone, tablet, or computer.

Cost:

Nebula & Red Giant Astro Camps (1 week) – €50 per participant, €25 for additional members of the same family 

AstroLands Academy (2 days) – €10 per participant

Fees waived for Frontline workers and those who have had their wage affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. If this applies to you, or the fee is an issue for any other reason, please get in touch by email education@lofar.ie
